Background: Eaton and JEIL
Eaton expanded its hydraulic holdings several times throughout the years, and one of their major acquisitions was the South Korean hydraulic leader, JEIL Hydraulics. When they acquired JEIL, they also acquired two of its most popular lines of hydraulic motors: the JMV Series track drive motors and the JMF series swing drive motors.
JMV Series Hydraulic Motor Design Focus
When desgining the JMV series of motors, their engineers focused on these design challenges:

Eaton JMV Series Track Drive Features
There are several outstanding features to the JMV track drive motors. They offer have excellent efficiency, both mechanical and volumetric. They have a compact design with both a high power density and a high torque density. In addition, the JMV motors have a high start-up torque, which can be crucial in certain applications.
They have been designed to achieve smooth acceleration and deceleration to minimize the roughness of starts and stops. JMV motors also auto-shift between high speed, low torque and low speed, high torque when they encounter high traveling resistance. This is another design feature that improves efficiency by reducing wasted power.

Eaton JMV Reputation

In 2013, they made a agreement to put Eaton swing drive motors and track drive motors on their 7.5 ton crawler excavators. Sumitomo felt that the Eaton motors would help them to optimize their next generation of machines.
