Some Background on Bonfiglioli

Bonfiglioli  Riduttori is an Italian company founded in 1956 by Clementino Bonfiglioli under the name Costruzioni Meccaniche Bonfiglioli (Mechanical Engineering Bonfiglioli). By 1964, building starts on a factory in Lippo di Calderara di Reno, Italy. In addition, Bonfiglioli designs and then patents the RAE series two-stage planetary gearbox. This design so thorough and such high quality that for the next 15 years no improvements or modifications are needed.

In 1975, Bonfiglioli's expertise with planetary gearboxes increases even more as the company acquires Italsi. Italsi came with years of experience in manufacturing planetary gearboxes and an extensive set of advanced machine tools. Bonfiglioli renamed it TRASMITAL.

During the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s Bonfiglioli kept expanding, with new plants opening up around the world. Bonfiglio continued its global expansion during the 2000s, as well as adding mechatronics to its specializations. By 2016, it had become a major leader in the global power transmission market.

Bonfiglioli and Comer Drive Motors

In 2014, Bonfiglioli made an agreement with one of their main competitors: Comer. In that agreement, Comer transferred their electrical and their planetary track and wheel drives to Bonfiglioli. In other words, Bonfiglioli essentially acquired Comer's track and wheel drive products. Comer made this agreement so they could focus more on core products to service the agricultural, construction, forest, and energy industries.

Included in this acquisition were the so-called "mini final drives." These are used for compact equipment such as skid steer loaders, compact track loaders, multi-terrain loaders, and mini excavators.

Bonfiglioli Drives

Bonfiglioli manufactures travel drives, including wheel drives and track drives, including right-angle geared units as well as in-line gear units. Bonfiglioli travel drives are high quality, rugged, and offer a torque-dense design with smooth operation.  

Their product line includes drives for compact machines such as skid steer loaders, compact track loaders, and compact excavators. In fact, their final drives are used in a variety of equipment, such as the Bonfiglioli 700CK Series developed in conjunction with Kayaba for mini-excavators.
